Summer Is Here!

With the summer heat comes summer thunderstorms to water our gardens.  The market is rain or shine!  (If the weather is dangerous then the market will be cancelled.)  So, come on down to replenish your household with fresh, local food!  I am craving more of the peas that my family shelled and ate raw by the handfuls all week.

There will be no story time or music if it is raining, but feel free to take refuge in the market tent.

Email pictures or stories of your favorite market meals to beverlyfarmersmarket@gmail.com and we will share them on the website and facebook.

A big thank you to the awesome crew of volunteers who help the market run smoothly each week!

Here is a link to a yummy salad recipe that uses mostly market ingredients:  strawberry and leek salad

There is no market next Monday, July 2, 2012, so this is a good chance to stock up on the fresh stuff!

See you at the market with your umbrella!

Don't forget your compost!

Remember to bring your bags and your compostable kitchen scraps (no meat, no dairy).

Story time from 3:15-3:45pm
Michael Miksis' Acoustic World will be performing from 4-6pm

Let the farmers' market feasts begin!

Thank you to all of the volunteers, farmers, vendors, supporters, and market goers for making opening day a huge success!  And now let's enjoy the local veggies of our labor!  Each day after the market brings pleasure to my palette.  I love to prepare healthy, decadent meals that are almost entirely made of local food.  I believe that by creating and supporting a local food system we can solve many of the social and health problems we face in our community.

By shopping at your local farmers' markets you are slowing down to appreciate your community and giving your body the best medicine in life: real, local, whole food.  Thank you for being part of this beautiful community!  Here is a little slideshow of opening day.

Send me a photo of your favorite farmers' market picture of the week and we will post it on this website!  Here is my favorite appetizer of the week:

Sweet Pea
Here are links to two delicious Spring recipes from The Federation of Massachusetts Farmers' Markets.

Remember also that you can go to other local farmers' markets if you are running low on the fresh foods that you love.  The Salem Farmers' Market opens this Thursday!

See you at the market!

What's new with the market?

First, check out the new logo, designed by Beverly's own, Velvet Collective!  You will be seeing more work from this up and coming design group.

Now, it's time to change your shopping habits...the fresh produce, local meat, eggs, cheese, bread, pies, and more will be here in downtown Beverly in just 10 days! So, remember to stock up on the good stuff on Mondays. This year's vendor list is full of our favorite returning vendors and some very exciting new vendors.
Check out the vendor page above to see an up to date list of vendors, with links to their websites.  This year's highlights include pie, pickles, and pasta!

You can expect to find lettuce, spinach, arugula, peas, radishes, and scallions on opening day, June 11.  You will also be able to buy fresh, local fish from Rowands and local grass fed beef ,cheese, and eggs from Lawton Farm.  If you are starting your own garden this year there will be seedlings available from the Highground Microfarm.  There will be handmade soap, herbs, massage, local art, bread, books, coffee, honey, and more!

A big Thank You to Dawson's True Value Hardware in North Beverly for sponsoring air time on North Shore 104.9 for the farmers' market! They have also donated a ceramic counter top compost container to be raffled off at the market.  The Beverly Compost Initiative continues this year, offering a free compost drop-off site at the Beverly Farmers' Market.  Bring your vegetarian kitchen scraps down to the market and we will compost it for you!

This year's market has even more to offer than last year!  Check in with the website for regular updates leading up to Opening Day!
